Sourdough Starter Health Scanner

Snap a photo of your starter and get an honest, reassuring read on its health in seconds. Hooch and a boozy smell almost always mean hungry, not dead.

Where is your starter right now? (optional)

Take or upload a photo

Clear jar from the side, well lit · analyzed once, not stored

One free scan. Calculations and the verdict run on our server only for this check - your photo is not saved.

How the starter scan works

Upload a photo and we read the visible signals - bubble structure, how far it has risen, liquid (hooch) on top, colour and texture, and a mould check - then give you a single health score and a plain-language verdict. It is built to calm the panic: hooch and a sharp, boozy or acetone smell almost always mean your starter is hungry, not dead. The only real danger sign is fuzzy or coloured mould (pink, green, black).
